It is an ornamental, shrubby and evergreen plant native to Japan, China and India. Its foliage is dark green, oval, small in size and very dense. It blooms profusely, especially from spring to summer, and its colour varies from white, pink, fuchsia, red and combinations of these. As an outdoor plant it should be placed in a semi-shade and requires frequent watering, while as an indoor plant it should be placed near a window or in a generally bright place, without direct exposure to sunlight.
